Centre To Fill 441 Vacant Independent Director Positions In CPSEs

The government is working to address the 59% vacancy in Independent Director positions at central public sector enterprises (CPSEs), with efforts underway to fill 441 out of 750 posts, up from 392 in September.

Discussions are underway between CPSEs, their administrative ministries, and the departments of personnel, public enterprises, and corporate affairs to speed up appointments. Listed CPSEs are a priority, with 200 vacancies targeted. Independent Directors play an important role in Corporate Governance, with their appointments governed by specific norms. Proposals for extensions have been made because many of the vacancies have resulted from tenures expiring. The appointment process involves a search committee comprising senior officials and non-official members.
